A Kansas City teenager, 17, has been charged in connection with the Dec. 16, 2016, fatal shooting and assault during a drug deal in the 7700 block of East 52nd Street in Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Jewell A Jones Jr. faces Murder 2nd Degree, Robbery 1st Degree, Assault 1st Degree and three counts of Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records released today, police responded to a reported disturbance in the 7700 block of East 52nd Street on Dec. 16. A victim of the shooting told police that the suspect got into their vehicle. He had earlier texted the homicide victim, Warren Banks, buying marijuana. Inside the vehicle, the suspect fired shots, shooting Banks fatally and wounding another man who was sitting in the front passenger seat. Jones told a witness that he had shot at two men in a vehicle. Police found a bullet hole in the vehicle and recovered a spent shell casing.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $150,000 cash.
