A Kansas City, Kan., man has been charged in connection with a June 29, 2024, fatal shooting from his vehicle on Southwest Boulevard, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Richard Guerrero faces Murder in the 2nd Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and two counts of Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court records filed this weekend, were dispatched to the scene of the shooting and found the victim in a black Acura sedan. The victim was later declared deceased at a hospital. A witness stated the Acura and a Chevrolet were stopped at a red near La Bodega restaurant. A witness told detectives gun shots could be heard and the Acura slowly began to roll until it crashed in a wall of the restaurant. With use of surveillance videos, KCPD detectives determined the defendant was the registered owner of the Chevrolet. The defendant told a detective he fired a shot at the driver of the Acura after an altercation.
Prosecutors recommended that the defendant, who is in custody, continue to be held on a $200,000 cash bond.
