A 43-year-old Independence man has been charged in the fatal shooting Tuesday of Elijah Flores in a vacant lot in the 700 block of Ditman Avenue in Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Mark Selllars, dob: 12/15/1978, faces charges of Murder 2nd Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records, Kansas City police were dispatched to the 700 block of Ditman Avenue regarding a shooting. They found the victim, Elijah Flores, dob: 3/3/1983, on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds. He was declared deceased at the scene. The Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide. Witnesses told police the shooting occurred inside a nearby residence. A witness told police she saw the victim with a man wearing a mask and the defendant. But the victim and defendant became involved in a verbal altercation. Sellars pulled a handgun and shoot the victim in the back. Another witness told police that he heard three gunshots, then he saw the victim hobbling up the street, yelling for help. A male, identified as the defendant, held a handgun in his right hand
Prosecutors requested the defendant be held on no bond.
