A Kansas City man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of another man who was shot in the morning hours of March 20, 2024, while walking in the Midtown area of Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Tyron Lee Sims faces Murder in the 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court records filed over the weekend, Kansas City police officers were dispatched to the area of the shooting about 5 a.m. on March 20, 2024. Officers found the victim, who was soon declared deceased. He had been shot twice. Surveillance video captured the victim walking northbound another another man is seen chasing the victim. Audio of two gunshots was captured on the video. The shooter, who is wearing a black hat and a hooded sweatshirt with a pinkie ring, fled on foot to the north. He's observed buzzing into a building. He's seen with distinctive clothing and jewelry. After obtaining a search warrant, officers found medication bottles with the defendant's name, ammunition and an empty pistol case.
CASE UPDATE:
The defendant was found guilty on Sept. 11, 2025, of 1st-Degree Murder and Armed Criminal Action. Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 21 at 9:00 a.m.
Chief Trial Assistant Jamie Hunt and Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Luke Alsobrook prosecuted the case on behalf of the state of Missouri.
