A Kansas City man has been charged with multiple felony charges after he shot a Kansas City police officer following a car stop in Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Dwayne A. Barnes faces two counts of Assault in the 1st Degree, two counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, four counts of Armed Criminal Action and Resisting Arrest.*
According to court records, on April 8, after 10 pm, a Kansas City police officer attempted to arrest the defendant for Driving Under the Influence. While the defendant was being placed in cuffs, shots were fired and the officer was struck. Injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.
Prosecutors requested the defendant be held on a $200,000 bond.
