A Jackson County judge has sentenced Felipe Reyna Jr, 32, the second defendant convicted in the murder of Charles Williams in July 2017 in a residence on the Eastside of Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
The judge sentenced Felipe Reyna Jr., dob: 10/14/1989, to 20 years on Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action.
According to court records, the body of Williams was found by police on July 21, 2017 in a residence in the 2500 block of Van Brunt Boulevard in Kansas City. The victim, 31, had been shot with a shotgun and another weapon. Spent 9 mm shells casings were recovered at the scene. The Medical Examiner ruled it a homicide. A witness stated several individuals had walked up the residence where the shooting occurred. One of those individuals was identified as the defendant. He was carrying a shotgun, the witness stated. Arguments also were heard before several gunshots. Then individuals ran out of the residence to their vehicles. Another witness, who was at the scene when the homicide occurred, stated that the defendant shot the victim after they spoke in the front yard. The victim was animated but not threatening toward anyone.
Reyna pleaded guilty to Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action in April. A second defendant has already been sentenced to 25 years in prison for his role in the death of Mr. Williams.
