A 36-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in a fatal attack in Blue Valley park that took the life of Felipe Carrillo, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Corey L. Darden, dob: 10/23/1983, faces Murder 1st Degree, Robbery 1st Degree and two counts of Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court records, Kansas City police responded on Monday to 23rd Street, near Topping Avenue in Kansas City. Witnesses told police that a man in a blue Jeep had gone off the road before jumping into another vehicle. Officers also found the victim, Felipe Carrillo, in Blue Valley Park. He had been stabbed. Witnesses told police they saw the defendant and the victim argue before the defendant punching the victim through the vehicle’s window. After the altercation, the defendant got into the blue Jeep or SUV and drove it at the victim, running him over. The defendant told police that he stabbed the victim, who ran away. The defendant added that he wanted to kill the victim, so he got into the vehicle and ran him over.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $500,000 cash.
