An 18-year-old Kansas City man has been sentenced to 19 years in a Missouri prison for the fatal shooting in September 2015 of Justin Williams, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
The judge sentenced Marqiveon D. Washington, 7/16/1998, to 19 years for his Murder 2nd Degree conviction and three years for his conviction of Armed Criminal Action. The judge ordered the sentences to be served concurrently.
Washington had been set to face trial on Murder 1st Degree, beginning today, when he entered his guilty plea to Murder 2nd Degree. According to court records, Williams was fatally shot on Sept. 18, 2015 after Washington said he went to him about purchasing marijuana. Instead, they struggled inside a vehicle, until Williams was shot. One witness stated that the victim was shot as he was running away. Clothing that witnesses described Washington to be wearing at the time of the murder, as well as a handgun, were found in nearby bushes.
