An 38-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in the fatal shooting on Feb. 4 of Dionte Harris and the wounding by gunshot of another victim, a woman, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Keaire L. Martin, dob: 9/20/1982, faces charges of Murder 2nd Degree, Assault 1st Degree, two counts of Armed Criminal Action and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.*
According to court records, police were dispatched to the area of 81st and Lydia on a reported shooting and found the deceased victim, Harris, in the basement of a residence and the woman, suffering from gunshot wounds, in another upstairs room. A witness told police that the defendant went to the basement and they heard arguing before the shooting. Another witness told police that the defendant stated he had shot a man and wounded a woman. After being taken into custody, the defendant admitted he shot the victims because he believed they had stolen money from him. He said he let his anger get the best of him.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $400,000.
