A 52-year--old Kansas City woman has been charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of Tony L. Carmons on Jan. 2, 2019, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Carmelita G. Smith, dob: 7/23/1966, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records filed today, Kansas City police responded to a reported cutting at Truman Medical Center. They learned the victim had stated he was stabbed by his girlfriend in an apartment in the 2100 block of E. 10th Street. He died as a result of that stabbing. After obtaining a search warrant, police found a steak knife in the kitchen sink. It appeared to have blood, hair fibers and flesh on it. Apparent blood also was found on the floor. Witnesses identified the defendant as the victim's current girlfriend. When he arrived at the hospital, the victim told a nurse that his girlfriend stabbed him. Another TMC employee heard the statement.The defendant was later taken into custody.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $100,000 cash.
