Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson today announced felony charges filed this month against a Grain Valley, MO man for allegedly taking hundreds of thousands of dollars from his elderly mother’s bank accounts.
Michael C. McLin faces one count of class A felony Financial Exploitation of the Elderly and one count of class C felony Stealing. *
“My office has zero tolerance for those who take advantage of the most vulnerable in our community. In this case, a son is accused of betraying the trust of his elderly mother, allegedly draining her accounts without her knowledge or consent. This kind of predatory behavior, exploiting vulnerable seniors, carries serious legal consequences. The defendant could face between 10 and 30 years in prison,” said Prosecutor Johnson.
According to court records, the defendant put his name on his 80-year-old mother’s bank accounts without her knowledge. In 2022, the defendant began withdrawing money out of the victim’s bank accounts without her knowledge or permission. Between June 2022 and June 2024, the defendant took more than $240,000 from the victim’s accounts and her credit card.
*Charges are only accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until the defendant is either found guilty or pleads guilty.
