A 36-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in connection with the Nov. 12, 2018, fatal shooting of Damar L. West in the 700 block of East 30th in Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Marquand R. Simmons, dob: 12/26/1982, faces criminal charges of Murder 2nd Degree, Attempted Robbery and two counts of Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records filed today, Kansas City police were dispatched to the 700 block of E. 30th Street in Kansas City on a reported shooting and found the victim deceased on the back deck of the apartment building. He had suffered gunshot wounds, and the Jackson County Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide. Surveillance video showed the suspect vehicle, which defendant admitted to driving, following the victim's vehicle just before the homicide. The defendant told police he knew people with him in the vehicle were going to rob the victim. Mapping of the defendant's cell phone shows he was in the area of the homicide shortly before it occurred. Defendant told police he saw the victim run away from he and the persons with him, then he heard gunshots.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $200,000 cash.
