A 37-year-old Independence man faces statutory rape charges for alleged sexual relations with a girl that began in December 2014 when the victim was as young as 14, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
James M. Combs, dob: 4/4/1979, faces Statutory Rape 2nd Degree.*
The case was investigated by the Missouri Highway Patrol, at the request of the Independence Police Department because Combs is an Independence police officer.
According to court records, Highway Patrol officers found that Combs had sexual intercourse with a girl between December 2014 and June 2016. She was 14 or 15 at the time of their first sexual intercourse.
Combs surrendered today to authorities and posted a $75,000 bond.
