A 35-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in the fatal beating on this week of Michelle Long inside her KC residence, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Anthony D. Jones, dob: 9/16/1985, faces a charge of Murder 2nd Degree.
According to court records filed this evening, Kansas City police were dispatched Thursday to apartments in the 10600 block of E. 98th Terrace in Kansas City to check on the welfare of a resident. Officers found in Michelle Long's apartment, the victim on her back on the floor with blood on her face and blood nearby on the carpet. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Blood was observed on the walls and police investigators processed a bloody handprint from the closet where the victim's body was found. The crime lab determined the print was from the defendant. On Thursday, police arrested the suspect and interviewed him. He said the victim was a former girlfriend that he didn't know why police wanted to speak to him. When police detectives showed him recent social media posts between he and the victim, he laughed. He also denied knowing how her vehicle, after the murder, ended up at his mother's house.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $250,000 cash-only.
