Two KC brothers have been charged in the fatal shooting on Dec. 22, of Cornell A. Reed in the area of 55th and Prospect Avenue after a conflict at a nearby liquor store involving the victim and the two defendants, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Steven T. Kelow, dob: 3/3/1998, and Corey Richardson, dob: 2/18/1991, each face Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court records filed today, police responded on Dec. 22, 2018, on a reported shooting to the area of 55th and Prospect Avenue in Kansas City. Several shell casings were located and recovered.The victim died on Dec. 23, 2018. Police determined a verbal argument had occurred inside and outside a liquor store nearby involving the defendants and the victim. A small maroon sedan was seen leaving the store's parking lot. Around 55th and Prospect, the vehicle drove past the victim. Muzzle flashes were observed from the driver's side rear passenger seat. And the victim fell to the ground. Police investigation led detectives to a witness who stated the defendants were observed to be shooting out of the vehicle.
Prosecutors have requested a $250,000 bond.
