Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson today announced charges against a Kansas City man for a shooting that took place in Waldo earlier this week.
Ivory J. Bridgewater faces 1st Degree Assault and Armed Criminal Action. * If convicted, he could face life in prison.
According to court records, Kansas City police were dispatched to the 7400 block of Wornall Road on July 28 on a shooting and found the victim with apparent gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. He is now in critical but stable condition, with six gunshot wounds to his back.
Detectives reviewed surveillance footage from the incident, which showed the victim standing outside a vehicle when a blue Tesla pulled into the parking lot and stopped in front of the vehicle the victim was standing next to. The Tesla stays parked there for a few minutes and then the victim turns to walk away from the vehicle. The defendant exited the Tesla and began firing shots at the victim and then fled the scene.
The defendant was arrested in Tukwila, Washington by the Tukwila Police Department last night and is being transported back to Jackson County, where he will be held without bond.
*Charges are only accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until the defendant is either found guilty or pleads guilty.
