A Jackson County judge today sentenced a Kansas City, Kan., man to 40 years in prison for the April 2020 fatal shooting of Daniel L Washington, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
The judge sentenced Ivan D. Mock, dob: 1/27/1987, to 30 years on his conviction of Murder 2nd Degree and 10 years for his conviction of Armed Criminal Action. The judge set those sentences to run consecutively for a total of 40 years.
A Jackson County jury convicted Mock of the two felonies in a January 2024 trial.
According to court records, the victim was found by responding Kansas City Police Department officers near 39th and Main. He had been fatally shot in the passenger seat of a vehicle. Witnesses told police that the shooting had occurred near 40th and Agnes, but the car was driven to 39th and Main. They found a police patrol wagon parked in front of the CVS there and sought help for the victim. Witnesses identified Mock as the person who shot the victim, Daniel L. Washington.
Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys Jordan Logan and Kendall Foley prosecuted the case on behalf of the state of Missouri.
