An Independence man has been charged in connection with a long standoff with Independence police on Sunday, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Darian L. Mickelson, dob: 7/19/1965, faces Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Assault 3rd Degree on a Law Enforcement Officer.*
According to court records, police were dispatched Sunday to a residence in the 3100 block of Englewood Terrace regarding a fire. They found a shed on fire. A resident threatened he had a fire bomb and yelled obscenities at the officers. Police then secured the scene. They observed a man inside the resident point a rifle at police personnel. Hours later the defendant was finally taken into custody. Police found an explosive device near the main entry door of the residence, as well as rifles.
Prosecutors have requested a bond of $10,000.
