An 18-year-old Lee’s Summit man has been charged with recklessly causing the Feb. 1, 2016 vehicular accident that killed two passengers riding in his vehicle and injured another driver, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Collin J. Carter, dob: 9/10/1997, faces two counts of Involuntary Manslaughter in the 1st Degree and one count of Assault in the 2nd Degree.*
According to court records, Carter was driving a vehicle that was involved in a two-car crash
On Pryor Road in Lee’s Summit, Mo. Witnesses said Carter was driving at a high rate of speed, 80-90 mph. He attempted to pass a vehicle on a no-pass double line area of the road, lost control of the vehicle and struck another vehicle, injuring that driver. Two passengers in his vehicle died as a result of the wreck. A toxicology report showed that Carter had a depressant drug in his system.
Prosecutors have requested a bond of $75,000 10%.
