A 20-year-old man has been charged in connection with a reported rape and kidnapping in east Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Omar Lopez-Maldonado, dob: 1/21/1996, faces the following charges: Rape or Attempted Rape in the 1st Degree, two counts of Sodomy or Attempted Sodomy, Kidnapping, Assault 1st Degree and Tampering with a Motor Vehicle.*
According to court records, the vicitm was in front of a residence in the 1200 block of Fremont Avenue early in the morning of Jan. 19, 2016, when two men woke her and got into the vehicle, telling her a friend had told them to drive her away. One of the men was armed and, after she attempted to flee, he grabbed her and raped her in a field in an unknown location. Both me raped and sodomized her, holding her at gunpoint. They drove back to the area of 12th and Fremont and a witness tried to intervene. The men fired the gun, shooting out the car glass. They fled the scene and the victim reported to police. Police traced the suspects and their vehicle in a social media picture to the defendant.
The case remains under investigation. Prosecutors have requested a bond of $250,000.
