To acknowledge National Crime Victims Rights Week, I am posting this story I wrote for The Marshall Project in 2017. Prosecutors sometimes carry great burdens that come with having to prepare and comfort crime victims and their families. This burden pales in comparison to the weight carried by the victims themselves. This article gives a detailed view of that weight on those who seek to do this work.
Tomorrow, I'll post some details about a Crime Victims Rights Week event on Friday at 11:30 a.m. in Kansas City that our office has organized.
